Alaska Halibut Alaska's Cook Inlet offers fishermen the opportunity to catch the largest Northern Pacific game fish - the halibut. In 1987, a 460 pound halibut was pulled from the Inlet. While Alaska Halibut over 100 pounds are caught each season, the average Alaska Halibut run in the 20 pound range. Halibut fishing is generally good all season long and depends more upon tides and weather than which month you come. You bottom fish for Halibut with circle hook and heavy gear in 100-200 feet of water. The Halibut limit is two a day with no season limit.
